Maths

There are 2 focus tasks for Maths this week:

- Complete the White Rose Maths (see important information and link below)

- Try the Arithmetic Test (attached below - including answer page)

UPDATE

WE HAVE ALREADY COVERED THE FIRST TWO LESSONS ON THIS WEEK’S TASKS ON THE WHITE ROSE WEBSITE EARLIER IN LOCK DOWN SO WE ARE USING THE ALTERNATIVE LESSONS BASED ON REVISING OUR KNOWLEDGE OF READING AND INTERPRETING TABLES. (WHICH WE COVERED BEFORE WE FINISHED SCHOOL).  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO REVISE THIS I HAVE SAVED EVERYTHING YOU NEED BELOW.

IF YOU ARE CONFIDENT IN THIS AREA WE WOULD LIKE YOU TO TRY SOME OF THE ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES I HAVE SAVED BELOW.  THEY ARE SAVED AS JPEGS AND I HAVE ATTACHED THE ANSWERS FOR YOU.  FEEL FREE TO COMPLETE AS MANY OF THESE AS YOU LIKE INSTEAD OF THE FIRST TWO LESSONS.

FOR LESSON 3 AND 4 WE WOULD LIKE YOU TO GO BACK TO THE WHITE ROSE WEBSITE AND COMPLETE THE ACTIVITIES ON MULTIPLYING AND DIVIDING BY 10, 100 AND 1000. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/

THIS WEEK WE WOULD LIKE YOU TO WATCH THE VIDEOS I HAVE SAVED BELOW AND THEN COMPLETE THE CORRESPONDING TASK SAVED UNDERNEATH.  I HAVE ALSO ATTACHED THE ANSWERS FOR YOU SO YOU CAN MARK YOUR WORK.

THIS WEEK’S ARITHMETIC TEST IS TAKEN FROM TWINKL AND IS IN A DIFFERENT FORMAT TO WHAT WE HAVE BEEN USING ON TESTBASE.  IT SAYS YOU SHOULD TRY AND COMPLETE THE TEST WITHIN 30 MINUTES AND THEN MARK YOUR WORK USING THE ANSWERS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE.  IF IT TAKES YOU LONGER THAN 30 MINUTES, PLEASE DON’T WORRY.

Alternative Activities for lesson 1 and 2 to complete

Year 5 - Week 9 - Lesson 1 - Read and interpret tables

This is "Year 5 - Week 9 - Lesson 1 - Read and interpret tables" by White Rose Maths on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.

Year 5 - Week 9 - Lesson 2 - Two-way tables

This is "Year 5 - Week 9 - Lesson 2 - Two-way tables" by White Rose Maths on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.

LESSON FOUR - USE THE WHITE ROSE WEBSITE TO WATCH THE VIDEO FOR THIS LESSON

The BBC have now commissioned a home-learning section for each year group and they have 5 maths lessons for the week. The lessons follow a similar structure to the White Rose tasks above - a video to watch and learn from, then some reading to learn from and then some game-style activities to practice on. The timetable for the week is as follows:

1) Subtracting Decimals

3) Subtracting decimals with different decimal places

3) Multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000

4) Dividing by 10, 100 and 1000

5) challenge of the week here https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/zhgppg8/year-5-lessons/1

Another website that has been set-up by the Government is the National Academy. They will have a series of maths lessons for the week that will have a focus on SHAPE:

1) Classify shapes

2) Identify and classify shapes

3) Identify regular and irregular polygons

4) Identify and classify triangles

5) properties of quadrilaterals.

Each lesson starts with a quiz, followed by a video (Just like the White Rose) then an independent learning activity so if you feel like trying these then complete them in your Home Learning Book. The website link is here https://www.thenational.academy/

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During the week, a particular favourite mathematician of ours - Gareth Metcalfe - adds a new reasoning and problem solving lesson every morning at around 9am at http://www.iseemaths.com/lessons56/ Feel free to give this a try too. He has included all the previous lessons on the website.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have completed all the other tasks and would like to attempt more maths, another website that will be of use is https://www.mathematicsmastery.org/free-resources If you scroll down to the Year 5 area there are booklets for children and guidance packs for parents. The packs are supposed to last for 4 weeks at a time....so don't try to complete it all in one go.
