During the autumn term 14 children from year 4 and 14 children from year 6 have been chosen as Peer Mediators. Mediation is the process of two people involved in a dispute entering voluntarily into an arrangement to resolve the problem collaboratively.
At Mudeford Junior School we recognise the value children can have in helping their peers to overcome difficulties at lunchtime. By hearing both sides of the argument and discussing what the best possible outcomes could be, the Peer Mediators facilitate a process which allows both children a chance to talk peacefully and hopefully resolve their issue.
Mrs Samanis and Mrs Rippon led the one day training, which taught the children about the process, giving them the opportunity to practise in role as mediators and participants. The group of children acted so maturely throughout the session, asking so many valuable questions to deepen their understanding of the role that is expected of them. I am sure the programme will be the success it has been in previous years.
