Absence Procedure

We need to know why your child is absent from school. Please telephone the school office on the first day of absence. In every case a note is required on return to school. It is essential that we are given a reason for every absence as Government legislation requires that we report any unauthorised absence.

We may be required on occasions to discuss a particular absence with you and it may be necessary for us to refuse to authorise the absence and record it as unauthorised. We are also required to contact parents if the school has not received a reason for absence.

If your child needs to leave school early because of a medical or dental appointment or other reason please let us know before hand. When you collect your child please call at the office. An adult must accompany a child leaving school for an appointment. Children will be required to sign out and, on returning after appointments, to sign back in.

We attach great value to punctuality as a quality we encourage in children and in each other. We are required to keep a record of late arrivals. Children arriving after 9:00 am will be recorded in the late book. Children arriving after 9:30 am will be considered late and recorded in the register as unauthorised. We are required to contact parents if a child is consistently late. All unauthorised absences are recorded and reported to parents at the end of the year. Please make every effort to see that your child leaves home in time to arrive by 8:35 am.
